A recent YouGov survey has revealed that half of UK businesses will be forced to lay off staff within three months of the government’s furlough scheme ending.
The government’s furlough scheme is set to continue in its current form until the end of July and will continue in amended form until October.
The Treasury’s latest figures show that over 9m British workers have been put on the scheme, at a cost of £20.8bn.
A total of 1.1m businesses have applied for financial aid under the scheme.
The scheme is claimed to have protected millions of workers, but the results of a new YouGov poll reveal how fragile the employment situation still is.
A YouGov Custom B2B survey of more than 500 business leaders found that 51% will have to make lay-offs within three months of the furlough scheme coming to an end. This includes 21% who say they would have to let three in ten or more of their workers go.
